CEREN NECIPOGLU ISTANBUL INTERNATIONAL HARP FESTIVAL

REGISTRATION

 

Ceren Necipoglu Istanbul International Harp Festival is open to harpists and musicians of all countries and nationalities.
It will take place from the 15th to the 19th of January 2020 in Istanbul, Turkey.
Festival venue for solo harp competitions is Pera Museum, Beyoglu and for chamber music competitions German High School “Deutsche Schule Istanbul”, Beyoglu.

Chamber music groups can be with or without the harp.

Age                                      – No older than 30 years by 18th of January 2020

RULES and CONDITIONS

  • All potential contestants are eligible to apply for any category in which their age does not exceed the category limit.

  • Incomplete or unsigned applications will not be accepted.

  • Application deadlines are 15th of December 2019 for solo harp category, 15th of December for chamber music category. Applications received after these dates will not be accepted. Those who are eligible to participate in the chamber music category will be informed by e-mail on December 22, 2019 at the latest.

  • All works in the “solo” categories should be performed from memory.

  • Playing from memory in the Chamber Music category is not necessary.

  • Performing order is free choice.

  • Program may not be changed after it has been submitted.

  • The Competition Repertoire should include: “Name of composer, surname, name of work, number of opus, tonality”

  • Harps and individual practice times are provided to active contestants. Participants may also use their personal instruments at their own liability and cost.

  • Jury members will not be able to vote for their students.

  • All decisions of the Jury are final.

  • Finalists of each category are required to attend the final concert ceremony where the prizes will be distributed. The Award Ceremony will be held on January 19, 2020.

  • All stages are open to the public.

  • Photography (without flash and sound) is permitted.

  • Entry fee is not refundable.

  • All costs associated with participation are paid by the participants. Bank expenses are borne by the applicant.

  • The Organizer has the right to use the participant’s image and sound, radio and television recordings, the images taken during the competition, and the images taken at the place chosen by the Organizer at no additional charge to the competitor.

  • By accepting to participate in the Competition, the Participant is deemed to have accepted all Competition arrangements without the possibility to cancel.

REPERTOIRE

    • One category open for all classical music instruments open to any formation from 2 to 4 players, (ex. given string trio, piano duo, saxophone trio, ensemble with or without harp, etc.) average age no older than 30 years by 18th January 2020.

    • The program is of free choice of the candidates’ 30 min. maximum, consisting either of two to three contrasting pieces of classical music, or one larger form (sonata, string quartet, etc). No crossover, no pop music. The jury will consist of eminent musicians of Turkey and abroad.

    • There is a preliminary screening round per video: please send your recording of max. 10 minutes with name, work and age of candidates until 15th of December 2019.

    • You will be notified by 22nd of December 2019 of your possible participation. 12 chamber music groups will compete in Istanbul between 15 to 19th of January for the special 1st prize.

1st Stage Repertoire (20 min.)

1) Baroque piece free choice max. 5 min. (e.g. Johann Sebastian Bach, George Friederic Haendel, Domenico Scarlatti, Jean-Phillippe Rameau, Silvius Leopold Weiss, etc.)

2) Sophie Corri-Dussek/attributed to Jan Ladislav Dussek – Sonata in C minore

3) 20th century free choice of maximum 10 min. (Jean-Michel Damase, Carlos Salzedo, Paul Hindemith, Ami Maayani, Germaine Tailleferre, Nino Rota, David Watkins, Luciano Berio, etc.)

2nd Stage Repertoire (30 min.)

1) Free choice classical piece or Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Sonata in C KV 545 (without repeats)

2) Hasan Uçarsu “Blue Moon Gray, Yellow Night Wall” *world premier by Ceren Necipoglu ( Click here for score )

3) One movement from any Marcel Tournier’s Suite or: “La Danse du Moujik”, No.4, op.39

4) Free choice up to 10 minutes

1st Stage Repertoire (20 min.)

1) a) John Parry Sonata in D (without repeats)
     or
     b) François-Joseph Nadermann Sonata No.6, (2nd movement without repeats).

2) One free choice piece up to 8 minutes maximum

2nd Stage Repertoire (20 min)

1) Elias Parish Alvars – “From Voyages d’un Harpiste en Orient, op. 62, No.5”- The Sultan’s Parade March
