ÇAĞATAY AKYOL (TURKEY)

International harp soloist and composer Çagatay Akyol is Principal Harp of the Presidential Symphony Orchestra in Ankara, Turkey. After completing his harp studies in Berlin, Akyol performed with many orchestras and chamber orchestras such as the RSO Berlin, Staatskapelle Dresden and Mahler Chamber Orchestra. He has played under numerous noted conductors, including Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Chailly, Peter Eötvös, Michael Gielen, Bernard Haitink, James Judd and Giuseppe Sinopoli, and has performed as harp soloist with ensembles such as the Dresdner Philharmonic Orchestra, Borusan Chamber Orchestra, Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, Weimer Staats Orchester, Marinsky Theatre Orchestra, Kiev National Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, and Presidential Symphony Orchestra.

Cagatay is a dedicatee of works by several Turkish composers including Harp Concerto by Nejat Başeğmezler; Uzak Düş (The Distant Dream) for solo harp by Mahir Cetiz; Trio for flute, viola and harp by Hasan Tura; Concerto for Harp and Ney, and Anatolia Colors for flute and harp by Kemal Günüç. He taught harp at the Anadolu University State Conservatoire, and was a jury member of the Felix Godefroid International Harp competition. Apart from maintaining his orchestral position in Ankara, he enjoys performing and recording with diverse and creative chamber musicians, in particular in the Arpanatolia duo with Ferhat Erdem. Cagatay has participated in numerous radio and television programmes.
