ONUR OZKAYA (TURKEY)

Onur Ozkaya is one of the most outstanding and versatile double bass players to emerge from Turkey. He studied Double Bass at the Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory. He won the DAAD scholarship given by the German Government and completed his PhD Degree at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich under Prof. Klaus Trumpf.
Onur, who has many awards in many international competitions, won the special award of the ‘Best performer of the Year’ in category for string instruments at the Donizetti Classical Music Awards in 2017.

Among the orchestras he has played with as a soloist are Munich Chamber Orchestra, Presidential Symphony Orchestra Ankara, Azerbaijan State Chamber Orchestra, Sofia Academic Symphony Orchestra, Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of the Moscow Conservatory, CRR Chamber Orchestra, Çukurova State Symphony Orchestra Adana, Bursa Regional State Symphony Orchestra, Anadolu Symphony Orchestra. He performed the world premieres of Martin Jaggi, Franghis Ali-Zadeh, Gyula Fekete, Eduard Tubin, Andre Previn and Mustafa Kemal Saydam's double bass concertos with these orchestras.

He was the Principal Double Bass player at the Munich Chamber Orchestra and a member of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. Since 2010 Onur has held the position of the Principal Double bass player at the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 2013 Onur has held position of the main Double Bass professor at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Istanbul State Conservatory. His students have won many international awards and auditions. Some of his students are currently professors at State Conservatories in Turkey.
